Hamilton School Students Create Math-Based Zoo

Hamilton School Students Create Math-Based Zoo
Posted on 11/19/2025

Hamilton School’s 4th & 5th grade students explored the principles of math to create an amazing zoo filled with constructed 3D animals. They collaborated in groups to plan how to build their animals using rectangular prisms and calculated the volume of each prism as well as the whole animal. Students also designed blueprints and calculated the perimeter for the animal enclosures. Additionally, they researched facts about their animals and habitats, relying on cross-curricular skills from both language arts and science.

Students also learned quite a bit about teamwork, patience, and communication.

Putting this zoo together was a team effort by all teachers and students at Hamilton School. We're already thinking on how we can expand on this project for next year!
